Junior Choir
St Mary’s School and church are delighted to collaborate on a new project for the Years 3 and 4. “Mary in Music” brings together art, music and faith in series of discovery workshops in the church and school. The first workshop featured singing repertoire from the Middle Ages to the present day led by Richard, our very own Director of Music. Our curate, Jane, and rector, John, led a presentation of the life of Mary and her amazing encounter with the Angel Gabriel and the day ended with a lyric-writing task to build into a new School song.
In July 2022, the classes worked on papercut creations of angels with visiting artist Chloe Campbell. The pupils discovered a new song composed by Richard using some of their own words.
The classes gathered together in September for a blessing of the backpacks, celebrating Mary in Music for the Patronal festival!
Our amazing Junior Choir plans to sing during the following Summer Sunday 2023 services:
Sun 14 May, 10am ~ Adult & Junior Choirs ~ The Strife is o’er (Ley)
Sun 18 June, 10am ~ Junior Choir ~ Ave verum (Mozart)
11.30am ~ Junior Choir concert (Bach, Mozart etc)
St Mary’s Junior Choir is a choir for children from local primary and secondary schools. All children are welcome to come along – the choir is open to children Year 4 – Year 8. Our regular rehearsals take place in the church Tuesdays from 5.30-6.15pm during term time. We sing in public at least once a term, sometimes alone and sometimes with the Adult Choir for major services. Participation is free and the choir provides folders and music.
