Filming and Streaming Services Appeal

Dear Parishioners

Filming and Streaming Services at St Mary’s, Putney

While the pandemic changed how we could all congregate, restrictions are now lifting – allowing us to meet in person once again. Though for some, the option to join our services online is one they wish to see continued. And to do this, we need your help.

Online church and the pandemic

Mothering Sunday 2020 saw our then parish assistant, Jarel, pointing a smartphone camera towards John in church as we broadcast our first service online. The following week, the Stay-at-Home order was in force and John broadcast a Eucharist from his kitchen table via Zoom.

From there, we continued to improve how we could stream services for you. As a community we valued the worship and the connection between us – despite our separation.

Even when we could restart our parish Eucharist, we needed to provide worship for children and families online as social distancing was not possible. We did this with the 9:15 service.

We could only do this through the incredible people who put our system together and provided the technical support – thank you, you are awesome!

What comes next?

We believe as a church community that we should continue to have the ability to film and broadcast our services online. This lets people who want to worship from home due to infirmity or health needs to do so. It will also allow people who cannot attend funerals, weddings, and baptisms in person, to be part of those days from afar.

But to do this, we need the right equipment in place. This means a fixed camera and broadcast facility which can be run with ease internally.

Our appeal

We have received quotes from companies experienced in setting up streaming services within churches. The cost of a film and streaming system which can be operated at differing levels according to need and staffing – along with essential audio upgrades – is £15,000.

Now, we are turning to our community to ask if you can help support the church to continue to offer online ministry going forward.

You can support via any of the methods of payment shown below If you are already a Gift Aid donor to the Parish we will assume that you are happy for us to claim the tax top up on your donation. If you have not previously signed a Gift Aid declaration, and are willing to do so, we will provide you with the appropriate form.

As you will see from the table above, Gift Aid allows us to claim 25% on your donation from HMRC. If you are a basic rate taxpayer you need to be paying sufficient tax to cover the amount that we reclaim. If you are a higher rate taxpayer you should show your donation on your 2021/22 tax return, which should allow you to reduce your own tax bill by 25% of your gift.
