The ‘St Mary’s Roll of Honour’ features in the latest publication from the Wandsworth Historical Society and the Putney Society.
343 men who died in the First World War are listed on the Roll of Honour in St Mary’s Church. They left their homes in Putney, most of which can still be seen today, to fight and die in battles overseas. Each name represents a devastating blow to a family in the local area. This well-illustrated book tells the stories of those men and shows where they are buried in over 100 war cemeteries throughout the world. It also describes the steps taken to commemorate them by the Parish of Putney and it’s long-forgotten link with Abbeville during WW1.
With contibutions from local historians Maggie Jones, Sue Rolfe, Michael Bull and Dorian Gerhold.
Available from the Putney Pantry at St Mary’s Church during regular café opening hours: Price £5:00
