English National Ballet is one of the world’s great ballet companies. Founded by Alicia Markova and Anton Dolin in 1950, the original vision for the Company was to take classical ballet of the highest quality to the widest geographical audience, at a price everyone could afford. This remains the cornerstone of the Company’s philosophy today.
As a flagship company for the nation, English National Ballet presents an extensive touring schedule at home and overseas. The Company employs the best of British and international talent; choreographers, dancers, designers, musicians, rehearsal staff, technicians and administrators, who all work as an ensemble to create productions that tour brilliantly and are accessible and exciting to audiences.
ENBS was founded in 1988 and was originally based at Markova House, the home of the Company. The links between the School and the Company remain strong, and ENBS is a crucial resource in providing the Company with talented young dancers. The Company has a full time complement of over 60 dancers.
English National Ballet is committed to developing the art form by:
- Keeping the cornerstones of the classical repertoire vibrantly alive
- Commissioning and acquiring new work
- Refurbishing existing works
- Encouraging new choreographers to work with performers.
As a touring Company, English National Ballet is committed to taking large-scale classical ballet around the UK and internationally. The Company is known for its touring and its ability to present works from the classical repertoire in a variety of forms and locations.

Adult Ballet Class with Alice Crawford
A beginner / intermediary ballet class taught by Senior Soloist, Alice Crawford from the English National Ballet.
All ages and abilities are welcome.
From an article with Kate Miranda at Putney Time & Leisure:
“I am touring White Lodge with Alice Crawford, who joined The Royal Ballet School in 1983 at the age of 11 and graduated to join the English National Ballet in 1990. She went on to become a senior soloist with ENB and retired in 2005 to teach floor barre to injured ballerinas. Alice was known for Clara in The Nutcracker and was named one of Princess Diana’s favourite ballerinas (Princess Diana was ENB’s patron). She lives in Putney with her family and last visited White Lodge for a reunion several years ago. Darcey Bussell was student a few years ahead of Alice and many of their friends now teach here.”

Artful Toddler is an arts and crafts group (overlooked by our creative king “Arty”) that allows young minds to explore their imaginations in a safe and fun environment.
Based at the Welsh Chapel in the heart of Clapham Junction in London, St. Mary’s Church Putney and Southfields Methodist Church, our mission is to allow little minds to get creative and have fun.
Artful Toddler gives children from 12 months upwards the opportunity to express themselves through Arts and Crafts in a safe and friendly environment.
They will learn new skills, have fun and make friends!
Stimulated by our wonderful staff, but especially by mums, dads and carers, children are encouraged to use their initiative and imagination to experiment and explore as much as they wish!
Class sizes are small so children do not get distracted which allows plenty of attention to be given by parents and carers as well as guidance from our teachers.

Pilates with Giulia
at the Manual Room
Joseph Pilates taught that one of the main results of his method is gaining complete control of your body. Pilates can develop the body, correct bad posture, restore the mind and elevate the body.
As bad habits develop gradually, proprioception is altered. Pilates is a programme that uses exercises to change the way in which we use our bodies. My aim as a Body Control Pilates teacher, is to help to strengthen your body in an even way with particular emphasis on core strength, improve your posture, muscle tone and flexibility.
My Classes are on every Thursday evening from 7.30pm to 8.30pm at the Manual Room [All Saints Scout Group Hall].
It is a mixed level beginners/intermediate class where equipment such as soft balls, tear bands and weights are also used, the only thing you will need to bring is your own mat.
I look forward to hearing from you so together we can transform your mind and body.
Remember that “physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness”(J.Pilates).

Yoga with Jo Goble
I first came to yoga, like a lot of people, purely for the physical benefits of gaining strength and flexibility. Yoga complimented the long-distance running and other various other sporting activities I was doing at the time by stretching out over-worked muscles. After practicing for only a short while, I discovered just how GOOD yoga made me feel, not just physically, but also (to my surprise) emotionally. I would leave a class feeling ‘blissed out’ and the things that I worried about in my life seem to affect me less. My view on the world broadened and I started to welcome more possibility into my life. Consequently, I became more curious about the practice and decided to experience a yoga retreat in India. It was in India that I deepened by yoga practice, discovered a lot more about myself and what I wanted out of life. I decided to follow my heart and become a Yoga Teacher.
What style of yoga do you teach?
I teach a dynamic style of Yoga called ‘Vinyasa Flow’ which links movement with the breath. The sequence flows from one pose to the next with fluidity, which enables the student to immerse themselves into a moving meditation. It is wonderful flowing practice that allows for a shift in the mind, body and spirit.
